Greetings, its been a while but I haven't been slacking [much] :)
Things went quite while I was waiting for the art work to one of the side panels to be completed but unfortunately that fell through. So I pottered around a little bit till I decided what to do next.

Well as of this week I have finally manged to find someone to do the art work, a place called killer paint in devon, who do mostly cars and bikes 8-o) and the occasional pc case. Anyway the artwork looks similar to my first posts with a slight word change

Should hopfully get this back in about 2-4 weeks. So whats been happening since me last post.

Well I have installed an SSD to replace my VelociRaptor as boot disk, its now my data disk. I got a G-Skill Falcon 2 128 gb one.

So needed a little drive bay converter to fit this in so got one of these

Wrong colour so sprayed it black.

Add SSD and whola :D

Posted Image

Next I got some fan grills.

Posted Image

These are make of acrylic, the metals ones I wanted were out of stock and weren't going to be replaced any time soon :-( so I compromised a bit.

Probably just as well they were acrylic as I had to file them down a little bit on the edges to fit together like that.

Next CCFL shenanagins.

The original thought here was to use UV reacted water which didn't go down to well, in that the water didn't react to the UV light <duno> so on to plan B. Since it was quite dark inside the case I would go for some white CCFL's to light it up and some blue CCF's to light the dark water text.

Now I haven't take any pic's of this all lit up yet as I'm going to wait until I get tha art work back first but I do have the constuction pics. The white CCFL's are set on the left side of the case and on the top. The blue ones posed more of a problem. Although I could mount one of the blue CCFL's on the right side of the case, where was I going to put the other one :-s

I had to think around a bit but eventually came up with the following idea. I would cut some acrylic up that I had lyng around from past builds and create a mounting point for the second blue CCFL to be attached to, like thus [-(

Spray it black.

and install it in the case.

mount said CCFL.

And hay presto.

I also decided, as an off thought, to mount some CCFL fan grills on the internal HD fans, just to brighten it up a bit  and damn these things are bright :-o

Posted Image

Of course all these were brainded first <thumb>

Posted Image

Switcheds too.

Posted Image

They're a bit too bright for the camera, blew the picture out

Fronts not so bad.

Oh and I also replaced the on/off button with one of those bulgin momentary switched, its the white circle above the fans :-D

Now the keen eye amoung you will have spotted the graphics card missing its water block, well ultimately this was my only real failure :cry:At the moment I can't get the water block to work with the card without the card doing a black screen of death (not blue). Of all the hours I have wasted with it I have assertained its not a heat issue or a driver issue. It only happens when I play games, doesn't matter which game, but it will black screen on me randomly with the water block on but run quite happily with the default heatsink and fan.
For now I'm leaving it until I can decide whether to get a new card or another water block.

So thats it, the case is almost finished, once I have the side panel back with the art work on it I'll take some final shots to showcase it =D>

In Topic: HDD vs SSD - When to Switch?

I bought a G-Skill Falcon 2 128 GB SSD for xmas for myself but its not exactly cheap at £263.73 but I was given money for xmas and used it to buy this. Ironically I moved from a WD 300 gig VeliciRaptor to this and although I saw a slight speed difference its not as dramatic as you think (subjectively speaking) ;)
But if I could do it again I would. Now have the VelociRaptors as a RAID 1 for all my files/data and games :D
