#187584 Forums Quiet

Posted by LoudonM on 18 September 2014 - 01:51 PM

I'm probably guilty of neglecting the forum too. I miss it being busy, but from a personal perspective, I've just got caught up with other things.

I still pop on for a bit of a mod now and again, but I'm so caught up with my new company that I've barely got time to scratch.

I don't even really game any more. I started playing EVE online because you can be super casual with it.

I'm working 6-7 days a week. 5 with TechStart, 1 with PAT testing and the last I go to the gym, take the wife swimming and do the odd bit of web design.

I'm a director for two companies and operations manager for TechStart.

I've gone from having all the time in the world, working for Carphone, fixing phones all day and trolling forums to having no time to do anything.

I don't say this to moan, just to point out that all of us that have been members / moderators for years have probably moved on, got promoted, have new responsibilities and obligations to attend to. I joined when I was 25/6. I'm now 32.

My priorities have definitely changed.

I used to be focussed on gaming, overclocking, watercooling, modding, bewbs and bbq.

Now I'm focussing on building a future and starting a family, growing a business, developing teams that work under me and keeping the car from exploding.

I've got nothing but love for WCUK and would dearly love to get more involved. There just aren't enough hours in the day.

For now, I pipe up when I can, and snipe mod the rest of the time. I will try though....

Mark.

ps. if you're wondering what we do:

#185158 Financing

Posted by LoudonM on 30 October 2012 - 10:05 PM

Hey bud,

speaking as someone that's just gotten out of debt, don't do it! it's a bad thing and silly.

You may only want to borrow a grand but you'll pay back two!

Trust me, save up and buy it a bit further down the road. Not only will you feel better for it, by the time you have the money all the parts will be cheaper so:

You'll have a better PC
You won't have a debt that you'll feel crap about because you've bought a low spec system for the price of a high spec one.

It's your money and you're free to do as you wish but, and I speak from experience here, you'll feel a lot better about it if you save.

Getting it on finance costs a bloody fortune.

If you do have to do it on finance, you're better off looking at the cheapest way to do it.

If you're planning on paying it off within the year you can look at credit cards that offer 6/9/12 months interest free purchases.

Just buy the PC and stick the card in a drawer!

that's my 2 pence anyway.

#185035 Project: Slick

Posted by LoudonM on 15 October 2012 - 11:27 PM

Hey guys,

I know, I'm posting... who'da thought :)
Not only am I posting, but it's a project!!! Yes, that's right. After 4 years I'm getting new shiny things :)

As some of you know, I've been out of work for a while, apart from the odd bit of web design and consultations here and there, so money has been scarce.

Last week my rig, after 4 years of being a great overclocker, died.

I was all sad kitteh..

Posted Image

but GOOD NEWS! I had a letter from the revenue telling I payed them too much moneys! So, after the wife got some new clothes, I got what was left and with a few parts donations from very kind and wonderful friends, I get to build things!!

I didn't have much left to spend, but I think I've made the most of it.

I get the remainder of parts from scan on wednesday 17.10.12, with the exception of mah tubing which will turn up a little later.

So, this is what I'm building:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4

CPU: AMD FX 6200 Black edition

Pump: Laing DDC Ultra

Rads: 2 x 240

Res: single bay transparent blue acrylic res

I've decided I fancy something a little more subtle than my last rig:

This will be an ongoing project as I'm totally tapped out until I earn something. For the time being, It'll be a plane, simple, tidy but slick looking rig. This time round, I want simple and understated.

So, keep a look out for photos over the weekend :)

Regards,

Mark.

#172491 New to water cooling

Posted by LoudonM on 20 November 2010 - 04:50 PM

Hi Pazza,

Welcome to the forum. :D

I'm not sure if they come with instructions but it's a pretty easy kit to put together.

Everything has it's own hole, so if it doesn't fit, it doesn't go there :D

the best advice I can give you is, make sure all your seals are nice and tight when you're putting the loop together.

it's best to leak test it outside of the case first, just in case. so, just measure up all your hose and put it together outside of the case and fill it up, then just leave it for a while. if it leaks, your seals aren't tight enough.

the H50 is a great bit of kit for the money, but you'll definately notice an improvement in performance with the kit.

Don't forget that you need to purchase the coolant separately as it doesn't come with it in the kit.

the bracket for the cpu block might be a little fiddly but no harder than fitting the bracket for the H50.

Regards

Mark.

#171180 just thought id let u know

Posted by LoudonM on 27 October 2010 - 02:28 PM

wow, thats one hell of a difference mate. hats off.
it makes such a difference losing that much weight.

The differences i noticed almost immediately when i started dropping the weight off were that i could a) sleep on my front B) jog without getting breathless and c) climb the stairs at work without wanting to die! lol

i bet you're having similar experiences.

It's nice being able to breath properly, lol

I've hit the plateau too, im stuck around 14st but im aiming for 11 (from 17 and a bit)

I guess i need to look at my diet too. i dont eat crap, i cook a lot of pretty healthy meals but im sure there are things i can cut back on.

@PD I know what you mean about the legs. all my weight has dropped off through cycling epic hills 20 miles a day. my legs are HUGE and like rocks. I swear i could crack haselnuts between my legs, but i still have the belly.

I might start doing sit-ups to see if i can at least tone my abs, even if you cant see them :P

Anyway, im really happy for you Ace. I've seen the change in myself, and you, having been larger than I, I can imagine it's even more of a change. It's a whole new lease of life, not to mention the health benefits that come with dropping the weight. It's nice to see that there are others out there determined to make a change.
At the very least we'll all get to share our 'war stories' lol.

this was me at my heaviest:
