Hey guys,

I've been commissioned to build a beast of a rig by a friend. He's basically sending bits by courier and I have to put them together :)

Can't say I mind much.

So, here's the spec:

Components:-

CPU: i7 - 4770k

Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z87
GPU: 3Gb EVGA 780Ti Classified copper Hydro

RAM: 32Gb Corsair vengeance 1866

PSU: 1Kw unknown atm...

SSD: 250Gb Samsung 840 EVO

HDD: 2 x 3Gb Western Digital red

Case: Something Large and alu..
Optical: Samsung Blu Ray

Cooling:-

Pump: Laing DDC-2 12v

Rads: 2 x 240, 1 x 120

Fans: 7 x CM SickleFlow red LED

Tubing: Masterkleer 1/2"OD

Coolant: Phobya UV Red

GPU Block: EVGA Classified Hydro copper

CPU: Some universal block...tbc

Fan Control: NZXT Sentry LX

Lighting:-

Phobya flexlight, 2 x twin Red LED, UV LED strip

For this build I'm looking at black internals with red highlights. The idea was go have flowing, glowing red blood pumping through the heard of the system... or some such nonsense.

Anyway, Parts are here. The old machine is getting dropped off in the morning. This'll give me something to do over the weekend.

Pics incoming

So, most of the parts have arrived..

In case you're wondering... yes, this is a glimpse of the shop I've just signed the lease for with TechStart.

I've still got a few bits on order. I've got a couple of bits from WCUK, New CPU block, some tubing and a 120mm rad.

I've also got a sound card, res and lights on the way. Hopefully the lot will be here on Tuesday.

Finally got the old machine, the one I'm looking forward to rebuilding...

It's an old 3XS system from a few years back. It's even got a 1st gen i7 860!

Not bad for an 'amateur build'.... :P

Needs a good old clean. Love the case... it all comes apart and it's so easy to clean. It's a Silverstone Temjin TJ09.

Looking forward to seeing the build.

I'm interested in seeing how the red coolant turns out. I tried red a few years back but everything just looked pink. The only coolant that was a proper deep red was the XSPC (was Thermochill at the time) EC6 Blood Red, but this is non UV.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm a little concerned that the UV element will make the coolant quite light. Though, I've got red tubing too, so that'll help.

So, I've made a start on the stripping and cleaning...

Not a quick job. I don't think this thing has been cleaned since it was bought.

Good of you to build it for ya mate, is there a drink in it for ya. Some nice stuff going in the case. Colour scheme should work nicely. Them old 285's with blocks weighed a ton. Look forward to seeing your effort. :-)

Yeah, there's a home made curry on the cards...

No kidding about those 285's... they're immense! Still, the 760 ti with the block on weighs almost as much.

moar pics!

Hey guys,

So, a small update.... I know you're all dying to see pics.

There's been a small delay as I've had to wait for parts to come into stock. I got some emails yesterday telling me that new shinies were imminent, thanks Rob :)

I've done what I can for the moment. I'm waiting on a CPU block, a 120mm rad and some lighting.

This is the shiny new hose....

Turns out he wasn't using 5/8" but 3/8", so I had to order yet another lot...

2014-03-22%2010.59.35.jpg

Looks sick though, right?

Gave me plenty of time to work on the cabling..

I even added a neat option for filling the loop...

It's at the highest point in the loop and I'll just cap it off when full:

No fuss, no messing...

pain in the ++++ with 3/8 tubing, never used it and never will.

Drainage nicely placed.

Good luck with cable tidying,as it's not easy with non modular PSU's :)
