Got a p45 MB. The MCH handles pciX 16 or two 8X.

What would happen (if there is support as one can get looking at articles about testing taping lanes) if one taped one card to 4x to run as PhysX? Would the card handling the GFX get 12x lanes? Or would it be stuck at 8x?

The CPU Q9650 has only 16 lanes built in right? So how does the southbridge get those extra 1x lanes in? The MCH got 16x and the southbridge six 1x; does the southbridge "steal" what is used in it's ports (e.g. Sound, network) from the 16 leaving 15 or 14 if one or two 1x slots are used?

Some thoughts on this?

Cheerio!

I'm pretty certain that if the second slot is used then it will be 8 + 8 lanes.

I have no idea about how the other lanes are handled, but my impression was that the southbridge has it's own additional lanes over and above the 16.

This detail may be in the motherboard manual on the manufacturers' website.
