My Canon PowerShot A590IS is pretty decent, but I'm interested in getting a semi-decent DSLR, maximum of £150-200.

I'm pretty partial to Canon (my previous was a PowerShot A410), but I know they're the big-boys of the DSLR world so not really sure what to look at first :)

Are you looking for new or second hand? You may need to up your budget a little :)

Ideally new, but obviously if the budget is unrealistic then I'll look at second hand or upping the budget. A friend has a Canon (don't know exact model) that they're giving me a price for tomorrow.

To get a new Dslr at around that budget your probs talking a canon 1000d,but there around £320 without the body.i might suggest finance, and using your £200 as a deposit.currys, pcworld, comment will no doubt offer a buy now pay later scheme, meaning you can get a fairly decent Slr with basic kit lense.or an upgraded lense.

Hope ive helped :)

Cheers guys, I've been offered a friend's Canon (not sure of the model yet, it's gone walkabout after moving back from university) for around £150. If that doesn't happen, I'll look at upping my budget :)

For that price, the unanimous advice I was given was that you won't find a better camera than the SX120.

The 1000D doesent come with an image stablised lens but,so it might be an upgraded lense, which case, kudos!

That price for an Slr is not too bad craig, hope all go's well and you snag it from him :),if not,i'd suggest a 450d,or a 500d.Both have an Is kit lens, and are really really sturdy, ive droped my 500 around abit, its still working fine.

Well I've managed to sort out a friend's pretty much unused 400D for £200, standard lens so I'm told plus UV filter. Should get it through later this week :D
