hi guys, been using water for around a year now and i just wondered why people stopped using TEC cooling or why we haven't seen many water chillers on the market. I have seen a few years ago tec was the way to go for extreme cooling and also a few companys were making the water chillers. so is there nothing else thats a little more extreme then phase for a 24/7 solution?

i know about ln2 but its not really a 24/7 cooling solution as much as a water chiller or tec could be used for.

But does anyone know why we are not using them now. Ive seen that there was some waterblocks for Tec cooling in the past but they are no longer made why is this?

TEC setups are pricey to set up and pricey in terms of electricity to run compared with standard watercooling. For not much more you can go phase change with even better results so I suspect TEC has found itself in a bit of a no man's land. Also when things go wrong, sometimes stuff tends to catch fire :D

the tecs required there own PSU, and a pretty hefty one at that, and after all of that cost you would still need some pretty extreme watercooling to keep the hot side of the TEC cool... all in all a bit of a waste of time...

Do you realise phase change systems are far more extreme than a Peltier?

yep but also far more exspensive

sorry i ment to put a little more extreme then water.

Ive thought about phase a few times but it always seems very pricey and never seen anyone in the UK selling a unit.

Not an aweful lot more expensive once you've factored in the cost of the gear you'd need to watercool the hot side of the TEC.

hmm yeah true never realised about that. but does phase over a better 24/7 overclock or just bench worthy overclock.

If so i could use phase on the CPU and keep my loop for my gfx cards :P

1) peltier - it generates enormous amount of heat to drop temps bellow abient therefore you need very good watercooling loop to keep other side of peltier cool. As a result it is very costly and not very efficient

2) retail phase units used to do Asetek, there may still be some on ebay but CPU mounting plates are old school. Small one stage phase unit made to order can be a decent solution for 24/7. This forum have few members which will quite likely be willing to build something to order

phase offers better 24/7 ocs as you can push more volts without fear I think AMDs would be OK for 1.65-1.7v 24/7 under phase and they are good till 1.9-2.0v for benching

Running a phase or peltier cooling setup 24/7 is so mind-numbingly stupid it beggars belief.... unless your clinically insane and bench 24/7 that is.
I have a penis and a brain, but not enough blood to run both at the same time...

why would it be so stupid running phase 24/7 would it damage the chip after a while?

Nice lamp and phone. Shame you couldn't get a case, speakers, monitors and keyboard to match. :(
